The
Port of Beaumont newsletter, "Welcome Aboard," received
top honors in the recent Communications Competition of the American
Association of Port Authorities.
The port's quarterly publication was chosen to receive the Award of
Excellence in the category of Newsletters - Color (Category 1) in
the annual competition of port communications tools. The Port of Beaumont
competes with other ports of the same size and with comparable communications
budgets.
This year's competition attracted 175 entries from 48 ports. The judges
chose to honor 31 ports with 56 awards, including 38 Awards of Excellence
and 18 Awards of Merit. The winning entries will be displayed at the
annual convention of the American Association of Port Authorities,
(AAPA) which will be held September 29 to October 4 in Quebec City,
Quebec. Awards will be presented at a luncheon during the convention.
Thirty-five communications professionals from the Washington, D.C.-area
devoted more than 40 hours to judging entries in the annual competition.
AAPA was founded in 1912 and today represents more than 140 port agencies
throughout the Western Hemisphere. The association, which is based
in Alexandria, VA, provides education and training programs for port
managers, works to expand public awareness of ports and offers research
and information services to the port industry.
Welcome Aboard has been published continuously since 1966. It features
news and information about the port of interest to the shipping industry,
the port's customers and the business community of southeast Texas.
The newsletter is mailed to about 3,000 subscribers and is available
on-line on the port's website at www.portofbmt.com.
