After moving more than 50,000 military vehicles through the Port of Beaumont in the past two years, Lt. Col. Michael J. Arnold transferred command of the 842nd Transportation Battalion to Lt. Col Darrin Bowser today as Arnold accepted decorations from his brigade commander, Col. Charles Brown.
"We finished up Iraq and the drawdown in Afghanistan," said Arnold, whose next assignment is division logistics officer for the Second Infantry Division stationed in South Korea.
A new dictator in North Korea, Kim Jong Un, is causing unrest with aggressive moves like firing missiles and making threats.
Arnold has served in South Korea before. Does he have any worries?
"Same thing, over and over. Just a different Kim this time," he said.
Before relinquishing command to his replacement, Lt. Col. Darrin Bowser, Arnold received the Military Order of St. Christopher, patron saint of the Army's transportation corps, and the Army Meritorious Service medal bestowed by the Army's Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command.
