         The Port of Beaumont Board of Commissioners today voted unanimously to order an election for May 11 to elect commissioners to an At-Large position and the Ward 2 seat.
 
The At-Large position is currently held by C.A. "Pete” Shelton.  Shelton has filed for re-election and currently is unopposed.  Ward 2, which is currently held by Henry Nix, Jr., has received candidate filings from Pat Anderson, John Johnson, Sam Serio and Lester Smith.  Nix announced during the January board meeting that he would not seek another term on the board.

Filing for the election ends on Friday.

The board voted to approve a joint election services agreement with the City of Beaumont and the Beaumont Independent School District for the May 11 election.
 
The board voted to approve a second change order to the Orange County Road Improvement Project with APAC Texas, Inc., which is being performed through the Texas Department of Transportation.  The change order deletes rehabilitation work at six railroad track grade crossings and deletion of new fencing, and resulted in the deduction of $386,288 from the contract amount.  The new contract total is $3,241,889.
 
The board voted to approve the port’s Policy and Procedures Manual, with a single change to allow the port director to negotiate contracts with a value of less than $50,000.  Previously, the port director could negotiate contracts with a value of less than $25,000.All items were approved. 
 
All votes were unanimous with all members present.
