Hurricane Rita Update
When Hurricane Rita blew through
Southeast Texas September 24, damage to Port of Beaumont facilities and
cargo was minimal.
Cargo operations at the port resumed
within four days, and the first ship was loaded October 1. Since
then, most normal military and commercial ship activities have resumed,
creating jobs and economic activity for Southeast Texas.
The port sustained minor wind and water
damage to its transit sheds and office buildings.
Grain elevator operations have now
resumed, with the first grain ship since the storm loading November 10. Other bulk cargo operations resumed October
5.
Intra-terminal rail operations resumed
September 30, and commercial rail operations in Southeast Texas are
back to normal. The port is loading and unloading railcars as they
are received and delivered by the three railroads serving Beaumont: BNSF, KCS and UP.
Traffic on the Sabine-Neches Waterway
has returned to normal. The draft has been restored to pre-Rita
conditions, and repairs to damaged navigation aids have been completed,
allowing around-the-clock ship movements.

operations, please contact us.
