The Seafarers’ Center of Beaumont, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, was founded in 1972 by a diverse group of individuals from the maritime and religious communities, and is sponsored in part by the Port of Beaumont. The Center was designed as a non-denominational mission dedicated to offering all seafarers arriving along the Sabine-Neches Waterway services and a haven from the isolation of life aboard a merchant vessel.

Hardworking men and women of the maritime industry make huge sacrifices to provide the world with a way of life to which it has become accustomed. Spending many months on board a vessel, away from family and friends, mariners face dangers and challenges unique to their round-the-clock profession. Away from the support of their local communities, the Seafarers’ Center gives mariners a place to feel “at home.” The Center offers a warm welcome to seafarers and military personnel. Our chaplain and volunteers also meet mariners right where they work—aboard cargo ships and on the vessels that visit Port of Beaumont and nearby docks along the Sabine-Neches Waterway.

The center provides personal, practical and spiritual guidance. Services included distribution of donated personal items, shuttle service to places of shop and worship, providing items important to maintaining relationships while out to sea including calling cards, and access to the internet.

Professional staff serve as advocates for seafarers’ who may not have been treated fairly at sea and work with a board of directors to meet goals and objectives of the center.

As a 501(c)3, the center relies on the kindness of community members to ensure the men and women who visit our port are taken care of. There are any number of ways for you and your church or group to get involved with the Seafarers’ Center of Beaumont. Each individual has time, talent, and a unique skillset to donate.
